Ways a Couples Retreat Can Improve Your Marriage
Last years couples retreat.
Rev. Nkanata during his family Wednesday radio program in Muuga FM.
A couples’ retreat is an event dedicated to improving marriages. Retreats can last anywhere from one day to two weeks, but the most common length of time is a weekend. These retreats are designed to allow couples a break from their daily lives to focus on each other and developing their relationship.
Here’s five benefits of attending a Couples Retreat:
1. Put God in the center of your relationship
You may not have thought about it this way before, but marriage was God’s
idea. The fullness of God’s plan and order works so well because God created it, “and God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). He wants each of us to forsake our own desires and live for Christ, not ourselves.
A biblical marriage is one in which each spouse submits themselves to Christ and seeks after God’s purposes, not their own. Attending a Biblically-based couples retreat can help you refocus yourself and your relationship on God.
2. Time away from kids, work, and the stresses of life
Did you know that stress can have negative effects on a marriage even when it comes from sources outside of the relationship? Stress can lead to decreased marital satisfaction and negative interactions. Taking a few nights away from work, children, other family members and stressors can be a huge benefit for a marriage.
3. Dedicated time to focus on your relationship
The truth is having a healthy marriage takes work. The myth that culture tells us today is that if we marry our “soul mate” everything will be easy and perfect.
But, that simply isn’t true! For good results at our jobs we expect to work hard and put in time and effort, the same is true of our marriages. A couples’ retreat is one way to set aside time to focus on and improve your marriage.
4. Have fun with your spouse
Enjoying a nice dinner and laughing with other couples during a Couples Retreat is good for your marriage.
One of the ways people fall in love in the first place is by doing fun things together.
Continuing to do fun activities together throughout your marriage can strengthen your affection for one another.
5. Learn valuable tools
This benefit is perhaps the most obvious benefit of a marriage retreat–learning wisdom and advice on marriage. Whether you’ve been married for three months or 30 years, there’s always more to learn about God’s design for marriage and how to improve your relationship with your spouse.
Rev. Abraham Nkanata will be hosting a Couples’ Retreat at Olives Retreat Gardens, opposite Kemu University main campus on Sunday 15th July 2018.
The Couples’ Retreat is designed to empower you and your spouse to have a healthy and fulfilling relationship.
This series is based on the idea that love best motivates a woman and respect most powerfully motivates a man.
Learn how to meet each other’s needs and grow in you marriage through this fun-filled weekend.
